Potential Oscar Nominees

Many excellent movies are coming out this time of year, and most of them could be considered for the Academy Awards. Also, many of the actors and actresses in these films could be nominated for, and even win, the Oscars for acting.

The movies that will probably have the best chance of winning Best Picture are: “Birdman,” “Boyhood” and “Unbroken”. Michael Keaton stars in “Birdman,” a movie about an actor who once played an iconic superhero, but now must overcome his ego and family problems in real life. “Boyhood” follows the life of a boy from age six to eighteen and shows what it is like to grow up with divorced parents. This movie is unique because it was shot over a twelve-year time period and used the same actors throughout the whole shooting of the movie. “Unbroken,” directed by Angelina Jolie, is a story of an Olympic runner who runs in the 1936 Berlin Games and then fights in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He becomes a POW at a Japanese prison camp, and the movie is about how he survives his years of imprisonment.

The front runners so far for the Best Actor award are: Michael Keaton from “Birdman,” Steve Carell from “Foxcatcher,” Benedict Cumberbatch from “The Imitation Game” and Eddie Redmayne from “Theory of Everything.” Some other actors that could win the award are: Jack O’Connell from “Unbroken,” Jake Gyllenhaal from “Nightcrawler” and Timothy Spall from “Mr. Turner.”

The women with the best chance of winning the Best Actress award are: Julianne Moore from “Still Alice,” Reese Witherspoon from “Wild,” Rosemund Pike from “Gone Girl” and Felicity Jones from “Theory of Everything”. Other actresses that have less of a chance are: Amy Adams from “Small Eyes” and Emily Blunt from “Into the Woods.”

It is still unclear which movies will win Best Picture and which actors and actresses will win the major awards, but one thing that is definite is that we will see many entertaining movies and impressive acting performances that we will remember for years.
